Table of McKennas
McKenna and McKenna-variant gravestones from Old Errigal Cemetery / Errigal Truagh, Co. Monaghan.
Current conclusion · 13 May 2026
Short Answer
This table is the active grave-evidence workbench for the Monaghan proof hunt. It does not prove Thomas McKenna's parents, but it shows that the right kind of family-group evidence survives in the right geography and highlights which Patrick / James / Elizabeth / child-bearing stones deserve the next paid or on-site lookups.
Best current reading
Old Errigal provides high-value proof models and competing candidates, especially Patrick stones with children, but no direct Thomas-1772 bridge yet.
Research stance
Use the probability column as a triage tool, not as a conclusion. A row becomes proof only when it links to Thomas by relationship, townland succession, estate record, will, or family plot.
This table pulls together the McKenna-indexed memorials from the Historic Graves-hosted Memorials in Old Errigal Cemetery PDF, then links to the individual Historic Graves page and gravestone photo where the current site has one. Rows marked PDF-only were present in the 1987 index but did not have a matching individual grave page in the downloaded Historic Graves pages.
Probability method: the relationship score is a working estimate for whether the person or grave group belongs to Thomas McKenna 1772's close Monaghan family cluster, not proof. It weights target names, date fit, relationship wording, and the Donagh / Glasslough / Errigal geography. Scores are capped below proof level until a record links Thomas directly to a parent, sibling, townland, lease, will, or family plot. The table is sorted from highest-priority lead to lowest.
Children named: this column lists named sons, daughters, or child-age people when the inscription preserves them. Where the stone only says children, the row notes that the children are mentioned but not named in the extract.
